Dual core problem can fixed by setting affinity for it. Some old games may also require a Glide Wrapper to run on modern systems with advanced GPUs. Or if the patch does a workaround for problems with newer graphics cards or dual-core processors. Check the internet to see if a new patch for the 9x game you are trying to play has been released that improves compatibility with new OS like XP. Probably a good solution most of the time.
Many games requires at least 16-bit mode to start. Not to mention without proper drivers Windows inside VirtualBox will display in 256 colors. I'm yet to see a VirtualBox program that emulates Direct3D required for most 9x games.
PS: I've heard you can install Windows 95 on DosBox! Google it. There are several solutions but not without their drawbacks.ĭosBox is probably the best DOS emulator there is.
